একধরনের মৌসুমি দুর্ভিক্ষ পরিস্থিতিকে বোঝাতে মঙ্গা শব্দটি ব্যবহার করা হতো। বাংলাদেশের উত্তরাঞ্চলের বৃহত্তর রংপুরের কয়েকটি জেলায় এই পরিস্থিতির সৃষ্টি হতো মূলত কাজের অভাবে। একটা সময় দেশের অন্যত্র মঙ্গার মতো অবস্থা সৃষ্টি হতো।
